Rumors about next activation of Iceabreaker “KRASIN”

Dear Friends,

this morning I had a long QSO with our colleague R/O Valery PAVLOV, many of us know Valery for his large models of morse Keys production, he said me he has just ended his last job ready to be delivered and he told me about a coming activation from the famous Icebreaker “KRASIN” moored in the Harbour of Saint Petersburg as Museum Ship but full restored and ready to sail.

I visted a website dedicated to “KRASIN” and I discovered the ship has been built in 1916 exactly 100 years ago, we cannot forget the employ of this icebreaker in the rescue operation of AIRSHIP “ITALIA” commanded by Umberto NOBILE unfortunately crashed on the pack in the year 1928.

“Soon after the crash a rescue committee was established in Moscow, USSR. Soviet Union had two powerful icebreakers, Lenin and Krasin and a smaller icebreaker Malygin. It was decided to send Krasin and Malygin to save Italia crew. Krasin left Leningrad under the command of Captain Carl Eggi and expedition leader Professor Samoilovitch, total crew 136. The icebreaker had a plane on board under the command of pilot Boris Chukhnovsky.

On 11th June Chukhnovsky found Mariano and Zappi (Malmgren died earlier). 12 June Krasin rescued Mariano and Zappi and later on the same day 5 remaining Italia survivors.”

Valery at the end of our QSO promised me to send details about next “KRASIN” activation and they will be published on this website in the mean time I found a nice youtube clip, it is a Russian TV service from the radio room of the I/B.
