Marine Transmitter – Marconi Marine “GLOBESPAN”

In this short review we remember the ship’s main transmitter “Globespan” by Marconi Marine, it was installed in radio stations from the end of the 50s until the 70s of the last century. The GLOBESPAN worked on the maritime radio bands of medium and short waves in modalities A1, A2 and A3.

As a medium-wave telegraph transmitter it provided 275 watts, between 1.6 and 3.8 MHz, the output power was limited to 100 watts and on shortwaves, depending on the band, the output power was between 340 and 400 watts .
The working frequency was carried out in all bands with the help of Xtals. In the band of medium waves, eg for the 500 kHz a quartz with the natural oscillation at 250 kHz was needed. On the short waves bands, the 2nd, 4th and 8th “harmonics” of the same basic Xtal were used for 4, 8 and 16 MHz. On the 6 MHz band no telephony operation was possible.
