ESSO and the Era of supertankers

In the 70’s many Oil Shipping Companies started to build very large ships for transporting big quantity of crude oil around the world, between them Esso Company was the main to manage a certain number of VLCC (very large crude carrier) and ULCC (ultra large crude carrier) ships with massive vessels of 500.000 DWT, the use of these ships in the time showed a big employ of billions dollars and at the beginning of 90’s the building of such big ships declined for smaller size ones with a maximum DW of 200.000 tons.
